Summer is back

This week started off quite relaxed.

We took it easy and decided to explore a dead end branch of the Grand Union Canal, the Wendover Arm.  This turned out to be a great decision as the canal was very quiet, the water clear and we could see lots of fish.
So could the Tern that followed our boat all the way to the basin at Tringford (it even managed to catch a few fish) We found a nice quiet mooring in the basin.

It was a fair walk into the township of Tring, we tried out a couple of pubs and had the worst meal so far in the Robin Hood pub. Beer and service were great but the food was shit.

After one night at Tringford we returned (we were accompanied again by our friend the Common Tern who was fishing) to the Grand Union Canal and moored in Berkhamsted.  It was a convenient location to catch up with family and access London via public transport.

We had a lovely afternoon catching up with Linda's family on Sunday until we injured Aunty Joyce.  We made her inspect the boat and unfortunately when disembarking she hurt her leg. We raced her backwards on the boat to Barry's car and he sped her off to hospital in Hemel.  Last report she is recovering well at home.

Kates last day we spent in London checking our the tourist sites.  It was a wonderful day. We walked our socks off.   We were sad to send Kate off on her way back home. It was just like the old days when we travelled as a family. (When are you coming to see us Jane?).

How the London skyline has changed since our first visit in 2005.  So many more tall and unusual buildings.

We left Berkhampsted and made our way to Hemel Hempstead we had a relaxing trip as we shared locks with another couple who are on their way to the River Wey.  It was good to share the locking.

Yesterday we spent the afternoon with cousin Shirley, Colin and their friend Stephen (a seasoned boater).  It was a nice afternoon sitting in the beer garden catching up, we took them back to the boat to show them around.  No accidents this time.

Today we have had a lazy day discovering Hemel Hempstead.  We had plenty of time to watch a few overs of a local cricket match.
