March 6th - March 10
After moving on from Longford we are now in Riana which is inland from the little town of Penguin.
We set up camp at Pioneer Park and went for a little discovery tour of the area. We stumbled across a sign to the Gunns Plains Caves. And thought why not. The cave tour was very entertaining. We finished off the afternoon at the Penguin Brewing Co. Sampling their wares and listening to some great live music performed by Chester Draws and Kitty Martini.
Monday we visited Leven Canyon which was recommended to us by the caretaker at Pioneer Park. The tracks are quite steep but the views of the canyon and the Leven River are spectacular.
Tuesday we spent the day in Burnie walking around town and we spotted a little penguin hiding in his burrow along the boardwalk.
Wednesday we ventured further west to Wynyard and then onto Boat Harbour and Sisters Beach.
On Thursday we moved closer to Devonport in preparation for the trip home. We camped in a small town called Forth, when exploring the town we visited the old Catholic Cemetary we are not sure what happened in 1876 but there were quite a few children that died that year. From there visited Latrobe as recommended by some campers we met at Pioneer Park. It's a lovely old town with many old Victorian buildings and an unusual shop called Reliquary. When we entered we were given a map of the shop. It has hidden themed rooms, there was a Space room and Alice in Wonderland.
Friday up nice early to catch the ferry home.
